Chief of Police
The Village of Moweaqua, population approximately 1,800, is actively seeking a Chief of Police. The Village is located in Shelby County, 12 miles south of Decatur, IL. It is a residential community with a strong sense of pride in the schools, business district and residents. Moweaqua offers a library, golf course, successful sports teams, grocery store and several small businesses. Additionally found in the Village is the Springfield Cinic which includes a full pharmacy and there is also a dental office.
The position offers an annual starting salary of $57,000 + (commensurate with experience and education) and benefits that include: health insurance, IMRF, police vehicle, 3 personal days, 10 sick days and vacation days. There is a 90 day probationary period and the position also requires residency within a 10 mile radius of the Village. The annual budget for the police department is $367,000.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of police experience and leadership skills. Candidate should also have an outgoing personality and be approachable and accessible to residents, businesses and government leaders. Additional expectations are finance management skills, supervision of staff, and a willingness to interact and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and mutual aid groups. A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or Business Administration is preferred.
