JOB TITLE:  Street Assistant

DEPARTMENT:  Street and Alley
DIVISION: Street

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Street Superintendent, Mayor and Village Trustees

DIRECTION OF OTHERS:  None

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Ability to operate all machinery and equipment of the village

This position requires an extensive background check.

NATURE OF WORK:  Works under the supervision of either

The Street or Water Superintendents.

Operates heavy equipment when required.

WORK PERFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain all equipment including the following: Backhoe, Dump truck,

  Spreader truck, 250 pickups, 150 pick-up, generators

  1. Help pick up brush
  2. Help with water main breaks
  3. Help with snow removal
  4. Help patching roads, working alleys, and prepare roads for oiling
  5. Help with cleaning and installing culverts
  6. Help clean and maintain curbs, water drains and sumps
  7. Mowing at various municipal sites including the following: Uptown,

   Water tower, tree park, water plants, sewer plant, well site and dump

  1. Help with Christmas decorations and flag display
  2. Help spraying for mosquitoes
  3. Help with Spring cleanup
  4. Assist with any required street closures for parades, festivals, etc.
  5. Other assignments as required by the Mayor or Superintendents

     EXTENT AND TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH THE PUBLIC:

  1. Represents Village government through direct contact with the public.
  2. A. Maintains good relations with the public in the process of performing duties.
  3. B. Notifies emergency/protective services and the media of street closings.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:                           I. Must possess a valid Illinois Class B CDL driver's license with air brake endorsement.

  1. I Must possess or acquire public applicators license (mosquito) within (1) one
    year after employment.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION:

  1. Employee must be capable of operating miscellaneous tools and equipment

   relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: Motor
   vehicles, road construction equipment, road maintenance equipment,
   communication equipment. computers, copy machines. fax machines, measuring
   devices, and calculators.

 

WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:

  1. The normal week will generally consist of (40) Forty hours, Monday through

    Friday when possible. Employee may work extended hours, emergency call outs,
    and on weekends and holidays and as needed to monitor treatment facilities.

    All Village Department Personnel are on Twenty-four (24) hour call to report to work.
    This is an exempt position.

  1. II. Machine shop environment and construction job site activities, which may
    include walking, climbing, and bending, in a normal construction environment.
    This may include exposure to the natural elements, dust, insects, and conditions
      that could be hazardous or dangerous relative to construction sites.
  2. As approved by the board of trustees and subject to the availability of funds,

   continuing education and training will be provided to ensure a competent level of
   ability to perform of this position and to allow maintenance of required licenses
   and certifications.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Employee must live with 10 miles of the Village of Moweaqua
  2. Employee must pass physical & drug screening.

Environmental Demands: This position requires
an equal amount of time spent standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting,
pushing/pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds is
sometimes required, with a maximum of forty (40) pounds infrequently required.
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and bending are
sometimes required. Repetitive movements of the hands are sometimes

required. Audio, visual, and verbal functions are essential functions to performing
this position. The majority of the workday is spent indoors.
